Upcoming Meeting
Annual Christmas Party
December 1, 2025
Description
The annual Christmas party will be held in lieu of the normal monthly meeting on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Denton Greater Arts Council from 7–9 PM. All members are invited to attend. We encourage everyone to bring a dessert or an appetizer to share.
As usual, there will be a Gift Exchange, a Raffle for various tools and turning supplies, a “Turner of the Year” contest, a Silent Auction and a Bowling Contest to win prizes. In addition, the winner for the Quarterly Raffle will be drawn. See below for more information.
Activities
Gift Exchange
As in the past, the gift exchange is separated into two categories: gifts for woodturners and gifts for non-woodturners. If you wish to participate, bring a wrapped gift in either category. A random draw will select participants to choose a gift from the pile. You should select a gift from the same category as the gift you brought.
Raffle
We will have a raffle for various prizes. The prizes were shown in the November 2025 Newsletter . You can buy your raffle tickets at the party and place them in the jars associated with the prizes you want to win. The winner for each prize will be drawn from the tickets submitted for that prize.
Turner of the Year
We will have a contest to recognize the “Turner of the Year.” To enter, bring your favorite piece that was turned in 2025. Any turning can be submitted — it just needs to have been turned in the past year. The winner will be selected by the party attendees and will have bragging rights for the next year.
Silent Auction
There will be a Silent Auction at the party. You will be able to bid on the pieces that were created in the Collaboration Challenge. Pictures of those pieces can be seen on the Gallery page. Just select "Collaboration" in the Event filter in the left sidebar. In addition, there are several pieces that have been donated by Demonstrators throughout the year that are included in the auction.
Bowling Contest
This year, we're putting a fun spin on bowling! We will have two games, so if you don't have time to make a Christmas-themed bowling pin prize, you can still play!
Game 1
To enter, bring a Christmas-themed bowling pin (we aren't going to be strict on the size or shape) and place it on our Prize Table next to a number. You can bring multiple pins for a spouse, etc., to play too! Grab the PVC pipe and a “bowling ball” (made by John Solberg) and aim for the pin (made by the board) that shares a number with the prize you'd like to win.
If you want to win someone's turned piece that's on number 4, try to hit the pin with #4 on it. If you miss the pins, you can bowl again until you hit a pin — however, whatever pin goes down, that’s the prize you get!
Game 2
After Game 1 is done, we will put gift cards and raffle tickets on the prize table so anyone that is unable to turn a prize can play as well! The same rules apply, just with different prizes.
Quarterly Raffle
The Quarterly Raffle winner will be drawn at the party. The winner will be selected from all raffle tickets sold at the monthly meetings for the past quarter. The winner does not have to be present to win, but we encourage you to come!
